BERMUDA'S Min. of Labour cancels 100's of Work Permits!!

FROM THE ARTICLE: Economy Minister Patrice Minors issued a statement defending her administration’s efforts to put Bermudians back to work when asked to explain the reports.“Let me state first that this Government and I as Minister responsible for employment and work permits will be doing everything in our power to ensure that Bermudians, who are willing and able, obtain employment,” she said.

FROM THE ARTICLE: “Every potwasher and every cleaner has been rejected,” said one restaurateur who did not want to be named. “We have been told that by January 20 they must cease and desist working, and they must leave the island three weeks after that.”

So, here is a woman who has decided to take a stand against the unemployment in her country and to put her people back to work that are in her own words and sometimes mine 'who are willing and able'. I sent an email to our elected government with the same link and asking the question of our Min. of Labour Rolston Anglin, what plans his Govt. had for us. I have not even been given the decency of a response to say ‘thank you for your email’, which is expected, they are silent to who they want to be silent too.

It seems to me that our Govt. is clearly not in any favour of putting Caymanians back to work by the way in which the system is constantly being challenged and objected to. There are persons that companies are holding their positions for waiting for their return from roll over, so why are they (the businesses) complaining about losing their good staff when they are saving their job for them to begin with. But yet, they put the extra work on their Caymanian employee and don't give them a dime increase in salary, and complain if they have to pay them over time. Where is the equality?

These situations are being supported also by the DER simply because although they have the power to challenge, expose and impose fines on these businesses that ill-treat their staff this way, they don't DO IT!! They don't even take the complaints serious enough to even attempt to resolve them. How many complaints have they solved successfully over the last year??

The DER complains that they don't have the law to do anything, but when they have the law that dictates they must do X, Y and Z they don't do it!! They pass it over, ignore it, take your complaint personally because you and their family had some run in years ago, or you are prejudiced for just being Caymanian period (which I must say must be the reason they NEVER assisted me).

These kinds of issues are what is killing the system and attracting the PIRATES to our shores because why would they want to come here and do good for its Citizens when the Govt. of this country don't even think enough of its own people to take a stand for them the way Min. Patrice Minors in Bermuda did for her Bermudians. Sometimes I have to wonder why in the world did I stand in that hot sun and vote? Why did I waste my time? It didn't matter one bit, and not just my vote, many others as well.

The DER needs to be shut down and everyone there given their walking papers. The success rate is way below its failure rate, together with being the most dysfunctional dept. of this Govt. Too many Chiefs and no Indians up in there. They do not want to help Caymanians, and there statistics needs some serious challenging on its accuracy.

Let me sing praises to Min. of Labour Patrice Minors of Bermuda, you have done a great thing for your people, and this gives me hope here, because you have set a precedent we can advocate for in this country too. I hope that your reign will be long and successful.

This is my tribute to you for all your hard work as a singer and supporter of so many during your lifetime. Gone but you are definitely never forgotten Daddy. It is a great honour to be called your child.

Premier's $20K Save The Mortgages goes FLAT @ Bank Front Door!!

The recent announcement in the local media by the Premier and his friends over at Dart Realty (Cayman) Ltd. are seen below making the contribution to the Save The Mortgage.

Here are the requirements to qualify for the $20K.50yr loan from Save The Mortgage:

A letter of employment or a letter from a recruiting agency proving the applicant is actively seeking employment;
Proof of income through bank account statements for those who are self-employed;
A certified copy of the mortgage account statement dating back two years;
A certified copy of identification;
Proof of home address through a utility bill containing the applicant’s name and address;
A copy of the foreclosure order or default judgment or demand letter stating the amount of the mortgage arrears, the number of days of delinquency and the names in which the mortgage is held by the bank;
Written approval from the mortgage holder of its willingness to restructure the loan facility.

What they have failed to tell you is that your Bank has to approve and accept this. There are no provisions anywhere that states your Bank must accept a second charge for anything including emergency medical loans etc. Furthermore, your Bank has to agree to taking out a second charge on the property for the amount of $20K.

Now, since this has happened I have been receiving information from individuals/families that are seeking this assistance and here's the content of one of those emails between the bank and a mortgage holder (permission to publish granted), this is the response they received from their bank:

So, this is one of the local retail Banks that are not COMPLYING, and they aren't no fools either. I don't blame them, because this is putting their customers in further debt, and although they will get repaid first if there's a foreclosure and/or forced sale, therefore the second charge really won't be of a bother. The entity putting on the second charge (if the Bank agrees) will more than likely only get paid if there's anything left after the sale is processed and the money distributed to pay off the original mortgage. Therefore, if there's anything left from this, then the second charge will be settled. There are no guarantees here.

REMEMBER: Not all that glitters is GOLD!! Caymanians be wary of FREE CANDY!

Rollover and Key Employee has killed jobs for Caymanians!!

The news article below appeared yesterday in the news media. Here's my take on this rhetoric:

Rollover and Key Employee should both be abolished.

Submit your application for a work permit and if you meet ALL (not some/or none at all) of the requirements then I say give you an approval. However, if you don't meet all the requirements, then fix what you are doing wrong and re-apply. That's your penalty for not complying. Now what is wrong with that??

This red carpet/easy street way of giving away work permits without doing full background checks is simply putting good Caymanians out of work or building blocks in front of those that are seeking employment. Furthermore, what about all these 'job hoppers', you all remember that term when Immigration didn't want to approve a work permit for a specific person back then, and especially when they came to work in one field and then quit and went to a completely different one. This needs to be fully implemented, because it's another loophole in these failures that are cutting good Caymanians out of work or from getting that job. I have never in my life seen more Legal Secretaries on work permits move around from law firm to law firm on this island. They can jump around with ease, but the poor Caymanian has to go through the longest RED TAPE of bullcrap to get the job. Some firms hold the position for them when they go on rollover, and deny the Caymanian that promotion. But yet the Caymanian is doing the extra work and getting nothing more for it while they await the return of the secretary. This is the reason the Govt. keeps claiming they have to do all these 'swaps' , 'freebies' and 'duty concessions' so they can PUT CAYMANIANS BACK TO WORK! That is the lamest excuse ever, can any of you tell me why is it that CAYMANIANS ARE UNEMPLOYED IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY TO BEGIN WITH?? Answer that question!! Your constituents are eagerly waiting to hear from you, please hurry it up and stop stalling!! (That's a 'systematic failure' also).

These two 'failures' Rollover & Key Employee have caused many of good Caymanians to go unemployed. These elements of a 'Better Way Forward' as was so prominently bestowed upon us by the UDP Govt. personnel who fed us these lines as to why it was important to PRESERVE the JOBS OF ALL EXPATS versus CAYMANIANS, and have continued to cause havoc on the job, because this is the only country that secures employment for an expat over a native. But yet, the natives are the ones that they chase around securing votes from every 3.5 years leading up the next general elections.

We are not all blinded by the rhetoric and thank God we aren't all that dumb to believe in it as well. We can only hope that those of us that are riding the wagon with all this nonsense floating around and dishing out of money like we have a free flowing money press, will wake up and realize that IT IS NOT ALL IT IS MADE UP TO BE! Do not believe in any of it! We are a smarter nation of people than this. These crumbs from the table is all they are CRUMBS, the bigger pie is being hogged by the select and privileged few.

Every Expat has a right to employment in this country and every Caymanian don't and this only happens when the UDP is in power. When the PPM was in power Caymanians got treated a whole lot better than they do now on the job. These are my observations, and from what people share with me about how they are living and working. I am a registered voter, and this is how I and many others see things happening around here!

This is a Tax Haven, it saves entities/persons billions if not more per year. So complaining about the cost of fees for that industry should not even be an issue. How much more money do they want to make off of us and give nothing or very little back in return? So, I say to you out there in the financial industry with your billion dollar accounts, PAY THE FEES AND HUSH COMPLAINING!! The mere fact that you are already saving more than you would some place else is reason enough that you shouldn't complain at all.

Lastly, the financial industry should be the first ones to jump on the platform and offer some free assistance to the Govt. on how to run this country at a profit (without greed and pillaging being involved), instead of complaining about the pennies in fees they pay which cannot be compared to what they earn.

I am going to stand up for my Caymanian people that are good, hard-working and genuine because clearly the Govt. ain't doing it, because they don't have any respect for us and that's why our voices go ignored. In 2013 we shall see who ignores who.

The latest headlines (see link above) have me so annoyed, upset and clearly shows me that we have an elected Govt. that is GREED driven and POWER hungry to say the least.

The Premier makes his big announcement which is no longer a SLAP in our faces, but what his latest revelation has done is SPAT in our faces and he has walked away LAUGHING at us because we can't do ANYTHING about it!!

This mega-deal will undoubtedly put more money in the pockets of the developers, with all that they will be saving in duty concessions and the value of the swapped land which is our West Bay Road corridor that has been there for generations and generations and has clearly done it's part to free up the movement of our people from district to district.

The fact that the FCO and the Governor has not intervened on this is very upsetting. They both know that this is Crown Land and they are the Property Managers of the Queen (so to speak), so why would they allow for this to move forward.

According to the developer they have to move forward to put Caymanians back to work. Well, why are Caymanians unemployed to begin with?? Furthermore, Mrs. Doak has shown NO PROOF whatsoever now or previously that Caymanians will get the majority of the work because there are so many of them unemployed right now. But we all know that this PROOF will never come to light, because when you have been given the AUTHORITY to do as you please in this country because you carry the heaviest purse, you aren't expected to DO SO!

This road closure will bring more SCORN to the UDP Elected Govt. by the people of this country who opposed it and also to the DART Group.

I have boycotted every business that signed that letter supporting this and that's my personal opinion on this modern day Pillaging by Pirates.

Medical Insurance is a RIP OFF with Govt's APPROVAL too!!

So I wish to enlighten you as to why I STOPPED paying my medical insurance coverage because I was being raped by my insurance provider without any compassion, regard, understanding and worse of all COVERAGE!!.

Basically I was covered for a Car Accident and if they could prove my OBESITY was the reason for the accident (which is so prejudicial), then I wouldn't get any coverage either. The Govt must stop allowing these insurance companies from raping us this way.

This letter below is what I was given by British Caymanian Medical Insurance when I was approved for coverage and had started paying, when they sent me this letter to sign or lose coverage. This to me was just a reason for them to hike up my premiums; which I might add was increased annually without any explanation as to why it was going up.

When I wrote to the Medical Insurance Commission for assistance, NO ONE answered my concerns with any real dedication or to even investigate this prejudicial letter. Nothing was done. I have the useless emails between myself and the Medical Insurance Commission and I will dig out those emails at some point and post them inside this blog at a later date, and show you how prejudicial our system is in this regard.

I have no idea why we have a Medical Insurance Commission if they ain't going to genuinely police, investigate these blatant prejudicial acts that this insurance carrier engaged in.

Minimum Wage a Sour Note for the Govt.

It would appear to me that every time the Govt. has to do something in favour of Caymanians, they find it to be a HUGE THORN in their SIDES! This is the incredible way in which our Govt. treats us Caymanians. We are so ridiculously played by this Govt. it makes me have the 'ho-hums' on a daily basis.

For decades our people have been enslaved in all areas of this community, being under paid and over worked. When I recall what my Father made as a Marine Engineer compared to what his work load was I have to say I am disgusted with the way in which these areas were passed over and overlooked because no one wanted to address these acts of 'pillaging and slavery' against our people.

Those whom were elected in the Govt. back then were too afraid to rock the boat with certain businesses in this community. However, they certainly made sure their positions paid them handsomely, and as time went on continued to increase their salaries. But did they stop for once and consider that their constituents whom supported, hired and trusted them were suffering tremendously in this overpriced, under paid Tax Haven?? I doubt very much many had a sleepless night over what their people were going through!

My Father had to lift outboard engines with his bare hands, without the aid of any lifting equipment, which eventually resulted in his severe back and neck problems that forced him to retire early, only after many surgeries to save him from paralysis. All because his employers were never enforced to provide the necessary "work place friendly' environments. Therefore, my Father's employers failed an entire section of the Labour Law, namely PART VIII-Health, Safety and Welfare at Work. They got away with it, without any penalties, whilst their employee's health depreciated at the cost of their greed and cheapness.

These are the kinds of situations that our people have been subjected to for decades, and have been obedient, and passive. They were ever so fearful of being 'victimized' by their Govt. they kept their mouths shut and took it on the chin every single day of their lives to make two ends meet. This was all playing out whilst our leaders frolicked at the 'cocktail parties' or the 'dinner parties' and all that did was fool them into believing they didn't have to do anything further for their people. Let their people survive how they can. Today, we are seeing the affects of this ignorance, as more of our people are pushed out of their jobs, losing their homes to foreclosure and their families breaking apart. The MONSTER they the Govt's of the pass created is in the ROOM, and is AWAKE and it's HUNGRY!

The other factor of how our Labour Laws were abused is that businesses every year raised their prices for goods, services etc., but they were reluctant to give their employees a raise. But, nevertheless their dedicated Caymanian employees stuck it out in the hopes that something better would come. But it never did, for many of our people. They were shoved further down the cracks and forgotten about by successive Govts. over the decades. Similarly to the way in which they 'turned a blind eye' to the growing garbage dump dubbed Mt. Thrashmore. They hoped that one day when they passed by it would no longer be there and somehow mysteriously it had taken care of itself.

Therefore, here we are in 2011 and we don't have a minimum wage in this country that is on par with the cost of living. To even suggest CI$5 per hour as the minimum wage, is really of no significance. That would work out to CI$220 per week at 44 hours a week. How is it possible for anyone to think that a single individual can live off of this is incredible and that is why many on work permits take on extra jobs. There are so many people working outside of the terms of their work permits in this country, it is really disheartening to see this and the fact that the Enforcements Dept. of Immigration is so understaffed they can't keep up with the work of investigating these situations. There are hairdressers working as housekeepers on their day offs, and so on. Taking another job away from one of our unemployed.

The fact that this Govt. cannot come to an agreement on the rate of the minimum wage makes me think that they have to see how it will benefit the SIG's and SIP's, whom can afford to give their employees that salary raise, but are too greedy to shave something from their 'fat' bottom lines to do it. So, this is why we have to make them do it by coming to terms with the fact that CI$10 per hour is the only fair and reasonable rate to approve. This Govt. should consider that anything less will be 'political suicide' for them.

If this is the response you are going to receive, can anyone tell me why has this website not been updated 2 YEARS+ LATER!!

I sent a complaint about the broken photocopier that's been awaiting a repair technician for sometime now, but he hasn't turned up as yet. Students and Researchers like myself can't make copies when there's no copier for this service to be provided to us. How long does it take to make a phone call? Why all the red-tape to get a repairman to check the copier? Who knows it maybe still under warranty and the longer it takes before they come out the faster that will reach it's expiration date.

I was also disgusted to see garbage/clothing on the floor of the stairwell of the rear interior stairs, and wonder which cleaning service is responsible for cleaning the Library?

This is a small scale of systematic failures by our public agencies.

Police Helicopter is a Noisy Nuisance

This video was taken after the RCIP Helicopter spent a considerable amount of time hoovering over our street two evenings ago. So much so that residents came out of their homes to see what was going on. Realizing that this was the RCIP helicopter in the area, the faces of most was in disgust and anger. The home-owners just returned home from a long and tiring day at work, now trying to enjoy a little cool breeze with the house open, in an effort to cut back on their utility bill. Some trying to fix dinner and settle the kids in with homework etc. But not a chance of some quiet, they are plagued by the deafening noise of the helicopter overhead and hoovering low. I decided to do a video so you could see how low it was and how much noise it was producing.

My personal feelings on this waste of the public purse is it is just that. There is not enough justification that you can give to me that would convince me that we needed this extra expense when we are such a small country and if you speed too long over 50mph you will run off the other end in a matter of minutes. So, why must we introduce this noisy mess into our tranquil lifestyle. The Police needs to beef up their efforts and this money could have gone to better use by hiring more professionally trained officers and improving the moral of the police and the educational mentality of some.

This helicopter buzzing around makes everyone in this country uneasy, even the tourist. The return visitors hate it because they left the same thing behind in their metropolis or 200K+ population towns.

The monthly expense that this helicopter carries is burdening on our public purse, and each time the police need a paper clip with a remote control attached to it, they shout at us for more millions! Furthermore, the entire stigma associated with the original purchase and disappearance/reappearance of this helicopter during the original purchasing fiasco is what has left a bad taste in the mouths of our people.

If there becomes a dire need to use a helicopter then retain as a backup the services of Cayman Helicopter, and strike a deal with them, and remind them they are also benefiting from this country's 'free enterprise' and should do their part to give something back.

So, in closing, I hope that we can find some peace and solitude from all the ridiculous rhetoric that keeps coming at our island nation day after day because those in power are ignoring the voices of the people that put them there.

Seriously, the RCIP can control the crime in this country IF THEY WANT TO, and they can do so without the aid of millions of dollars of equipment.

RCIP Actions 'Atrocious' says FOI Commissioner!!

Here we go again, more of the same coming out of the RCIP.

When are they going to step up and realize that this place is what it is a 'FAILURE' and it has to go through a major overhauling in it's history to straighten it out. Otherwise, the RCIP is going to bring this country down to it's knees and what are we going to do when that happens??

Miss Annie Huldah Bodden. My Favourite Politician!!

The link below will take you to a video of Miss Annie. A wonderful lady politician and someone I admire till this day. As a young girl many days I would sit under the tree on the bench in front of the old Hobbies and Books store down town near the waterfront and Miss Annie would share with me her political views on the country. From this time I was most intrigued by what she did. She was a lady of impeccable character, courage and nobility.

So to say I loved her, is to say it lightly. I truly admired her for all she did and how she fought for us in the Legislative Assembly.

She is our NATIONAL HEROINE in my books.

I would hope that one day very soon her memorial will be put on display down town in front of the LA as was done with Mr. Jim Bodden. She should be given this honour, she deserves it and it's long overdue.

Praise for a Heroic & Skilled Caymanian Pilot!

One sunny afternoon back in the mid 1970's both my parents, Mr. & Mrs. Stacey Tibbetts boarded the DC-3 heading home to Cayman Brac from Grand Cayman.

This is how it was explained to me by my parents:

The plane took off normally, but as it was passing over the North Sound one of the planes engines "cut out". Realizing what had happened, the quick thinking Capt. H at the time skilfully and slowly turned the plane around over the North Sound and headed back towards the direction of George Town to prepare for landing. My Dad recalled vividly how the Capt. H skimmed the tops of buildings down town on his final approach. They were so close my Dad recalled that it felt like you could reach out and touch the tops. The plane landed on one engine and, just as it touched down the other engine also failed and the DC-3 coasted to the side of the runway.

There were 16 persons on the flight that day including the crew.

My mother recalls she was very calm through the entire ordeal, but remembers how others were so frantic including the stewardess.

Thinking back, I am thankful, grateful and praise the heroic skills of our Caymanian Capt. H.

If you think that forming an Ordinary Resident Company in the Cayman Islands is going to protect you as an individual, well we have got news for you.

It does not protect you as an individual, because all shareholders/directors of the Company are equally responsible and can be sued in the Court in the Cayman Islands for any or all of the Company's debt.

To avoid paying the cost of incorporation fees for an Ordinary Resident Company, simply apply for a Trade & Business License with your name trading as the name of the business. It is cheaper, cost you less, and although you are subject to be sued either way, you might as well save some money in the process.

The news this morning that the Filipino Govt. has issued a ban on exporting workers to 41 countries including The Cayman Islands. When I read this I was most annoyed and had to comment further by an open letter on my blog to the Filipino Govt., here goes:

You are an ungrateful Govt., because if you care about your people, they wouldn't have to relocate half way across the world to make a life for themselves in a manner of which you have trained them to vigorously perform and without a genuine care for who, and what they disrupt along the way. So, shame on you for treating your nation of people this way! Also, shame on you for claiming we don't have protective labour laws for your citizens. How about you try and implement better labour laws in your own darn country for your people to remain and build on. But clearly you can't sustain your population growth, so you kick them out of their own country to seek a better life in another and at whatever costs and burden that maybe to the new host country and their own citizens. So, to ban your citizens from coming to work in our country, that's the BEST NEWS coming out of Manila so far!! Now take your ungrateful restriction and shove it and where the sun don't shine!! Yours a most grateful Caymanian, who appreciates your new ban!! LOL!!

Take better care of your own citizens before you point fingers at the host countries that have been more than generous in picking up your slack by employing your people.

Law of Lies do not exist in the Cayman Islands!!!

In 1999 Grand Court Judge Henry Graham sentenced the defendant in a trial using the 'Law of Lies'. This law does not exist anywhere on the law books of the Cayman Islands. Another situation in our Judiciary where abuse of power was clearly evident. What is even more appalling is no one addressed or challenged it, including the defendant's attorney.

How is this possible? How many more cases was ruled on by this GC Judge during sentencing whereby he used laws that do not exist? Who checked his rulings? Is it time to revisit this Judge's former cases to see when and where abuse of a persons rights together with abuse of power has played a role in sentencing. Do we call for a commission to review ALL the cases he ruled against?

It should be looked into with some seriousness, because in America we see week after week where persons are being released because of poorly judged cases based on evidence etc. There are many of such cases in this country that needs to be looked into.

There are NO GUARANTEES for your Caymanian people whatsoever in their own country when it comes to employment. The actions of this Govt is to take away our rights and roll out a red carpet for everyone else.

For once during your reign, please think about where you came from, how you got there and also have a bigger heart for your people. Why? Because they are the ones with the power to make the change, and I am sure they will.

The proposal of a ten year work permit whilst leaving Key Employee in place is another knife in our backs and a noose around our necks.

I am disgusted with these decisions because your Govt is doing nothing to protect Caymanian jobs and because of your actions ruthless employers are abusing the system, and ridding themselves of good Caymanians because they have the green light from this Govt to do so.

How many more educated and professionally trained Caymanians must this Govt chase off these islands to vest their professional talents in a foreign land?? How many?? Every week people are leaving this country and its not foreigners! I know, I have a growing list! Example of a dysfunctional DER; my resume has been with them since June 2010, have I received a response of assistance, so far I have not received a letter, email or phone call! But that is to be expected because this dept has no good intentions either.

If you can't DO GOOD for your Caymanian people, then please DO US NO HARM!

Demand healthier school lunches....

The Govt. Public Schools recently raised the cost of lunches by CI$2.00, whilst they are still feeding our children highly sugared drinks, and not enough fresh fruits and vegetables. Some kids in this country only eat at school, because there's nothing at home.

I SAY: Then the Premier should publish his speech on the Govt. website for all and sundry to read. One issue I have a problem with is that our Premier continuously speaks of putting Caymanians back to work. That's a very important gesture on his part, but I have a problem with the fact that NONE OF OUR ELECTED GOVT. should be making these statements, because Caymanians should NEVER have issues finding work in their own country. An expat can come on vacation this week and next week they have a job. How is that possible? Clearly the Premier needs to get his priorities on an even keel and stop saying he has to put Caymanians back to work, because they shouldn't have been out of work to begin with.

UDP Govt. Guarantees Employment to Expats-over-Caymanians!!!

The UDP Government recently passed in the Legislative Assembly a bill to introduce and give the Chief Immigration Officer the powers to approve 10 (ten) year work permits.

So, the way I see this is that something had to replace the 'roll over' policy (which I might add has been in use for decades, just got a fancy name in recent years), and this only paved a way forward for more persons to become eligible for Permanent Residency etc etc.

This 10 year work permit is another failure and when they realize that this has brought more bad than good or is a detriment to our Caymanian community then they will want to claim it was a 'failure' and that it 'didn't work the way we hoped it would' or simply put, they are making way for more persons to become nationals and further continue the plot of outnumbering native Caymanian citizens.

We are not blind to the fact that this is what's happening, and there is nothing they can tell me will convince me that this 10 year work permit move is beneficial to our country? It is just another one of their tactics to sway us into thinking that it's the next best thing to slice bread. Bullcrap!! Not one area of this was thought out, or what will be the outcome or the impact this will have against our Caymanian people down the road.

I know that this will cause our people to be passed over again for promotions, or even given the opportunity to make the second interview. Another 'legally crafted' loophole for guaranteeing employment to persons whom haven't even turned up on our shores as yet. But where are the guarantees for our Caymanian people whom are here fighting for employment, or to keep their jobs, or to compete equally? This permit takes away our Caymanian right to a 'fighting chance'.

The Cayman Islands has now been reduced for sale at a whopping reduced rate from the $million dollars the Premier proposed previously just a few months ago.

However, there is no indication from the Govt. that they plan to reduce the cost of living/duty/fees etc etc. Oh, that would be unheard of especially when any Caymanians could be benefiting from such a move.

Caymanians no longer have any rightful place in their country, because they too are for sale, and by that everything they own is up on Ecay or has a sign posted outside their front door, or a $9 advert in the newspaper, or the banks have claimed it and stock piled it hoping someone will buy it. All because we have a GREEDY GOVT., whom cannot see that they are the one's 'SUFFOCATING' the economy.

If this move brings anyone to the country that would be a freaking miracle, with all that's going on here, anyone with money and in their rightful minds would look some place else. But Caymanians can't look anywhere else but here.

When every other country in the world is reducing their cost to help their economies to flourish and get their people working, our Govt. offers our beautiful country up on the 'chopping block' for a basket of 'ground provisions' in price.

So, this is a result of 'bullshit leadership':

Recently in the Summary Court (August 2011) a work permit holder from Jamaica was before Magistrate Ramsey. The woman was charged with obtaining medical services from the HSA under false pretences.

The woman's case and charges was dismissed by the Magistrate because she felt that the employer was the one that was responsible for seeing that their employee had medical insurance. This is true. However, the Magistrate failed to penalize the defendant for stealing the services.

The woman on the work permit had been provided with a medical insurance card by her friend whom had medical insurance coverage. It was later discovered after racking up $8000 in medical cost that the person who received the medical services was indeed not the insured.

So, how can the employer be responsible for the deceptive actions of the defendant when in-fact the employer did not participate in these two women stealing from the HSA and the Insurance Carrier?

Therefore, for this woman's case to be dismissed, without a police record, and to remain in the country and work, whilst her and her friend deceitfully stole medical services is preposterous!!!! If the woman didn't have medical insurance she could have arranged a payment plan with the HSA or returned home which is a 55 min flight. Please note that it was never stated that the medical services provided were of an emergency nature, which one could be a bit more compassionate about.

CINCO's new system will prevent this from happening and save the Country some money in the process, and protect the Govt. from those whom would steal our services.

Minimum Wage, Not Enough!!

The mere fact that this minimum wage issue has been coming to the house for consideration/discussion for decades, or some 27 years now results in a Govt. whom for decades ignored the crucial aspects of an individual's right to a fair and equal pay.

For years Govt's have come and gone, they have made no apology to the people of this country for putting 'minimum wage' on their platforms and then forgetting to do something about it once they were elected to the LA. However, we know why nothing was done for decades, because the Special Interest Groups/Persons have lobbied our Govt. over the years to avoid making this introduction. So year after year, Govt. after Govt. came and went and although it was a 'smoke screen' for platforms for decades certainly shows that we have the worse track record in history for doing something 'positive' for the livelihoods of our Caymanian people in their country.

For decades others have come and gone, they have hired our people and under paid them, whilst over working them at the same time. I personally can attest to this working for an incredible amount of Trust Officers at once, over the years, but yet collecting a salary at that time way below what was considered a 'fair and equal pay for equal work' or in other words 'modern day slavery' of our people.

Therefore, our past Government's failed miserably when it came to passing a 'minimum wage' bill, and I make no apology for this comment because it is the TRUTH. We have been subjected to the ignorance of our previous Govt. administrations or their laziness to get up and do something. As I recall over the years, salaries increased for our elected officials because they would meet in the LA and approve them when their position warranted a higher income, and many promised on their platforms to deal with this issue, but no one had the GUTS to stand up for their people until now.

Let me remind you that over the years our Govt. was vigilant in increasing the cost of living with fees, etc and raising rates on duty, but not one of them in Govt. gave a second thought to pushing through a minimum wage bill with ferocity. They simply sat back and approved salary increases to accommodate their cost of living, but the populous was never thought about and what impact this would have on their livelihoods.

The other fact that it has taken this long, one would hope that our law makers would make it a good starting salary versus the CI$5.00 that was proposed. I do hope that this is not the end rate because it won't do anything to stimulate the economy, and people will be no better off.

To have a realistic minimum wage in this country you cannot consider anything less than CI$10.00 per hour. Any hourly rate approved for less than this amount makes absolutely no sense. The cost of living in this country is outrageous and something that our Govt. has failed to do anything about. So if they don’t want to cut the cost of living, then give the people a decent living. By a decent living I do not consider 'communal living' something that Caymanian's wish to resort too either.

Annie Huldah Bodden, OBE (April 21, 1908 - June 15, 1989)

Annie Huldah Bodden, OBE, (known as Miss Annie) grew up in George Town. A few

days before her 16th birthday, Miss Annie went to work for Mr. Edmund Samuel Parsons, a

law agent and justice of the peace. She soon developed a passion for law and political

issues. In 1939, she became Secretary and later the Manager of the Cayman Islands Motor

Boat Company, the shipping company that owned the Cimboco.

Miss Annie was a self-taught bookkeeper, which allowed her to serve as the first

female auditor of the Cayman Islands Government from 1947 to 1959. The following year

she became the first female law agent in the Cayman Islands. Her appearances in Court

were well noted, and she had a special interest in land cases.

In 1961, Miss Annie became another “first female.” She was a nominated Member of

the Legislative Assembly and served for three years. Then in 1965, she successfully ran for

office in George Town and become an elected Member of the Legislative Assembly and was

returned each election until 1984.

In 1976, Miss Annie became the first Caymanian female to be awarded an Officer of

the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal.

For many years growing up my family and I endured the insults, slander and name calling that was subjected against a member of our family that was gay, but unfortunately due to the close-minded society leaders we had back then he was not able to be open about his sexuality, which sadly, was disgusting inhumane and wrong!

Today, I am ashamed to hear the same slanderous comments being repeated from almost 25+ years ago, coming from the mouths of persons whom I once considered to be persons I would look up to in my community. To hear their comments about 'gay' people has sickened me to the core. I do not understand why we live in this 'double standard' country where it's OK for one sector of persons to be openly gay but it's not OK for others. These 'class' categories that we have lived in all our lives must have their glass ceilings cracked wide open, and now before we are faced with a string of lawsuits against a person's right to be whomever they want to be regardless of their sexual preferences.

I do not see the Churches beating up on the married men that are in the bars every week making lodgements of their monthly/weekly family earnings into the pretty bartender with the tight pants. Whilst the mother is home with the children wondering how much they will get for bills/food to survive, when he comes home at the end of the night. Where are the Ministers?? Why are they not out there in the 'highways' and 'byways' offering their spiritual counselling to families that need this support. Not everyone is going to walk up to the Church door and ask for help!! It is very disturbing to me that some Pastors/Ministers can call themselves the leaders, when they haven't got the slightest idea what leadership is all about. But yet, they run up and down their mouths about 'gays' and that it is wrong, and that God says it is wrong. God also said that you should not judge. Plus the God I know is a forgiving God, and he wouldn't have made any of us (including 'gays') in his image if he wasn't the God of LOVE!!

Please do not let me get started on all the issues that's going on in some Churches in this country. That would take me several blogs to write about. But many know about the ills of these Churches on island, the sexual harassment/abuse, infidelity, robbing the Govt. of fees and import duty, taking jobs from Caymanians by importing their own people, and why some are a racket because no one police them here, and so on and so forth.

So, I do not see the God fearing Church goers offering support to their 'gay' family and friends, instead I see them putting them down, calling them names, disowning them, throwing slurs and nasty comments in their faces. Let me remind you that 'gays' are people, they have blood in their veins, they breath. God gave them a body which is his temple to reside in so how can any 'God fearing' person have these thoughts whatsoever??

I loved the person in my family that was gay, they were my very best friend, they nurtured, cared, loved and even loaned me their boyfriend to take to my prom as my date. Let me tell you that caused a stir back in November 1984, but I had an open mind for years, and couldn't be bothered with what anyone had to say about it.

As a society, it is time that we accept 'gays' and give them the same opportunities as anyone else, because they are all members of our society and society has no other choice in the matter but to accept them, your rights are in the Bill of Rights. As far as a marriage between a man and woman, that to me is debatable, but no one remembers that we have the highest divorce rates in the world between heterosexual couples.

Give 'gays' a chance in our community, they are some of the best friends a girl can ask for. We must advance, modernize, upgrade and educate ourselves in this society to the fact that a person's rights must not be infringed on when it comes to their sexuality.

I will stand by you and advocate for your rights in this country, because this rhetoric against 'gays' in the Cayman Islands, has got to stop!

God will stand by me because I am defending the rights of people, and he does not like ugly either.

Civil Servants get pay raise, but Private Sector employees haven't seen one in four years.....WTH!!

That's good to hear. I know that many Civil Servants really need this pay raise and are deserving of it as well. However, maybe we can get to the table soon and put some teeth into the outdated Labour Law and ensure that employees in the private sector receive a mandatory cost of living increase annually.

Some firms in this country haven't given their employees a raise in over four years, but the Partners have received huge bonuses, all while profiting handsomely from the fruits of this Tax Haven! They brag about their wealth, while their staff slave away making them look good to their 'millionaire clientèle', and all the while the people whom truly deserve to be compensated fairly for their contribution to keeping that corporate ship running smoothly, have to endure crappy wages, hard words, tyrant jacka$$ bosses. Not to mention the ever backstabbing on the job, all to make your clients happy. So, to those of you I say you are no more than a PIRATE! Be nice to your staff and compensate them for their hard work equally and fairly, and stop stealing from their pay cheques, to fund your greedy and extravagant lifestyle's built off their sweat and tears.

Mr. Premier please try and look out for our people some more because as it stands they are getting licks from all sides now. In case you haven't been paying attention to what's going on in the community, let me remind you of this undercover menace to your people. There are many Caymanian people out there that could really use a pay raise annually to compensate for the high cost of living your Govt. imposes on them. The private sector businesses MUST give a cost of living raise to their staff every year, because this is LONG OVERDUE and we don't have any protection out here as our Laws are outdated. This has got to happen, and therefore, let's stop beating behind the bush (pun intended) with this part of the Labour Law, and incorporate minimum wage, it is going to save our people from falling below the poverty belt in their country.

There are no rainbows out here for many our Caymanian people. They are 'black listed' in their own country and that really sucks! But we have govt. after govt. claiming to their individual fame that we are all doing OK, and the Tax Haven of Milk&Honey is perfect!! Well, it is NOT! and please STOP trying to cover up our shame and disgrace.

Well, here what, no more, Caymanians MUST be treated evenly, equally and fairly, no more being MR. NICE GUY about that fact going forward.

Please make it known that Amitava Dutta was released from HMP Northward after serving 9months for 'grevious bodily harm' and 'actual bodily harm' against two separate women. The Compass article on December 3, 2010 outlines clearly what he had done to these women.

I note that Amitava Dutta was given a lenient sentence of 9months for the above criminal acts, which was a ridiculous sentence for such violent acts against two separate women in our community.

Therefore I am raising this issue in the public because he is back working into our community, he does not have any ties to this country, he does not have PR or Status and yet he is allowed to remain in the country after committing these acts against women. It is crazy to think that we can allow this person to remain in our community and who is to say that he won't hurt another woman again, or maybe take his anger to another level.

Therefore, I am appealing to the women in this community to address this matter with their leaders and the Chief Immigration Officer and have this man removed from our society.

We are supposed to be this modern metropolis in the Caribbean Sea, with some of the most ridiculous cost of living rates in the world and we don't have more protection for our Women. What about compensation for what pain and suffering this woman incurred? He is a former officer of the law and he of all people should have known better and to conduct himself as a former member of the RCIP. It is situations such as this that the community at large find it very difficult to give the RCIP any support whatsoever.

Things must change, you have got to pull up your pants from off the floor in this country in all areas and do better!! Your are all being paid 'handsomely' and your perks are extravagant but yet your service in return does not in anyway add up to what you are receiving in compensation!!

So, please fix what is broken in this country, because this 'band aid' approach without treatment is certainly putting a choke hold on this community and all it's inhabitants.

ROLL OVER has been around longer than you may think.....

As I begin the task of writing another page on my blog about what is happening in our society that’s changing our normal pattern of movement, I realize that some of our Caymanian people are thinking and acting the same way.

It’s crazy to think that the only movement of people leaving the country is all from the foreign community of residents. That’s absolutely not so, in the past several months and as far back as the beginning of this year I have had discussions with many of our Caymanian people and they are making plans to or have already commenced relocating overseas. When I asked why? The responses are all the same, ‘I cannot live in this overpriced country much longer, if my family is going to survive from falling below the poverty belt’. Others comment on the greed that is being so blatantly exposed in the media, and the way the community has no confidence in the way the country is being managed. But some are staying put, they will remain and fight for the democracy we so crave for our survival in these very difficult and precarious economic times. There are some retired Caymanians that are packing up and leaving as well, so their retirement can go further in a cheaper country than here. When Caymanians are forced to leave their country because of the cost of living then we see the tides of 'serious times' heading our way. The countries they are moving to are the US and the UK.

Last night I received a call from a young person whom is so fearful of there being no opportunities for them in the future as far a scholarship funding goes and they feel that they are wasting their time making good grades because their hopes of acquiring a full time scholarship is being quashed by the country's dire economic state.

Furthermore, I am so fed up of hearing that the ROLL OVER is the reason so many people are leaving this country. Whilst, it may play a role, it's not the main one. So to those uninformed persons whom think the ROLL OVER was initiated since 2003, well, I got news for you. The ROLL OVER has been around for years, it has only gotten a lot better than it was 10+ years ago when there were no guarantees that you would have gotten your work permit approved when a grant was submitted or worse yet your renewal was denied after one year and you had 10-15days to pack up your belongings and leave.

Those complaining about the ROLL OVER should be grateful for it, this is the most lenient the Immigration Law and Polices have been in decades and there are some still complaining about it! The Cayman Islands must be the only place in the world where the Immigrants dictate what they want to do and for how long and they just arrive. I don’t blame them in a way, because our own Caymanian’s in power have given them the green light to do so, by assuring them that they can get exactly what they want in this country.

Therefore, ROLL OVER has been around for a very long time; all happened was that the length of time you can remain on this island got extended over the years from six months, to one year, to 2-3 years and so on until they reached seven years. If that isn't a clear demonstration that this country has been more than accommodating to the bunch of those ungrateful people that keep criticizing the ROLL OVER, then I don’t know what else we can give to the lot of them that will shut them up or satisfy their greed.

There are persons whom are happy to leave after the seven years and say thank you to this country when they leave. I have met many of them over the years and they leave with a fat bank account, and in two years they will get another plump payout from their pension fund, and they are happy to start their lives over back home or in a new place. But others are a disgrace to their own nationalities, with the way they conduct themselves. Making noise on the blogs about 'who is Caymanian' and so on. Let me say to those, if you arrive on these beautiful receptive shores with that kind of mentality, then you have a serious 'identity crisis' of your own going on and maybe this is not the right country for you to take up residency.

Every native Caymanian knows who they are, and have no 'identity crisis' on their minds at all about their nationality. So please stop throwing this in our faces. I doubt very much you hear a Caymanian challenging you on your nationality? So please do not challenge us Caymanians about ours and we will all get along just fine.

Lastly, let me say this to those out there whom have acquired your Caymanian Status, Permanent Residency and Key Employee status, please go in and pay for them, because you all owe us MILLIONS. Therefore, if you have been given the privilege of receiving any of the above, then stop complaining and go pay for your right to remain in this country legally, and do your part as a good resident/citizen etc.!!

The recent news about another missing woman begs me to question the system that is currently in place which restricts you from protecting yourself from an attack. Women in this country needs protection, it's clearly evident that this is not going away. These are two close cases of missing women in the same year, and in less than six months. Whom are we to turn to for help??

Women in this country are in danger of becoming targets because of the senseless and careless way in which our Laws are written that offers protection to the perpetrator versus the victim. The perpetrator is assured that their victim won’t be prepared legally with any form of protection from being assaulted.

So I cannot begin to imagine how women are feeling in this country tonight. How vulnerable our lives are that we can be stalked, abducted, raped or murdered without any protection whatsoever.

Clearly this is a sticky matter, but how many lives must be lost before we step up to the plate and legalize forms of protection for women.

‘Prevention is better than Cure’.

MOU’s!! the Caymanian People want their MOU too!

The recent announcement of another signed MOU this time today between the Chamber of Commerce and the CI Govt. This MOU is designed to give the support for the ‘Future of Cayman economic development initiative’. The Caymanian people native to the Cayman Islands has not as yet received their MOU between themselves and their elected Government, whereby the people will have more say in what is going on in their country especially when it comes to the ‘quick sale’ or ‘quick unregulated trades’ of businesses and prime beachfront land in exchange for swamp useless land, or nothing of much worth/value at all.

It’s incredible that almost everyone who turns up on these shores can easily and without any reservations or hesitations whatsoever are able to put their demands on the table to our elected Govt. and in return we give them an MOU that has very little protection whatsoever for us the people and for the Country, but it sure lays out what the other party will get in return for what we must first give up. These MOU's will make them, the new comers richer, and more powerful in this country. Furthermore, there are no policing or enforcing of these MOU’s to ensure that the Caymanian people are getting what the document says they will get and what must be reciprocated in return, is done so with equality. But that seems to be the the normal way things are done. These MOU’s are slowly but surely doing a disservice to this island nation and its Caymanian people. They are written and entered into rapidly and haphazardly and which makes you wonder how in the world we can produce something so blatantly void of protection for us! These same MOU’s we sign and enter into with total strangers that gives them powers to remove payment of duties to our country’s coffers, that will regulate our Laws, or in some instances will amend our laws to accommodate them and their demands in all it's entirety and will most definitely pave the way to clearly fatten their net profits down the road and which will commence earning them a savings from inception. What will be our share? Will we earn a healthy return on these deals? How much will we as an island nation earn in comparison to what will the new comer profit? Just a few questions sent to me by some of our people in the community. We need answers, we deserve them and we have a right to have them answered from citizens with voting rights.

MOU’s are so easy to come by these days for everyone else except for the well being and the interest of this country and its Caymanian people. We don’t have any MOU’s with our elected Govt. that states and outlines that they will do the job that we have hired them to do! They do not have any accountability to this country or its people. We have members elected to our Govt. via the general elections that sit on their fat anatomies and keep a leather seat warm and have yet to bring any motion to the house for debate or to even prove to this country that they are earning their monthly salary. There should be some stipulation somewhere that states if you fail to attend X amount of meeting, or fail to bring X amount of motions to the house for debate on issues affecting the country etc. or simply stand up and say NO for once instead of ALWAYS saying YES, then your position will be placed on probation!! There has to be some better accountability policies in place for our elected officials. This ‘harem sacrum ‘attitude of issuing MOU’s to every Tom, Dick and Harry is showing our vulnerability, weakness, and how easily we can be controlled by the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR!!

These rushed MOU’s are an escape goat for our elected Govt. to use as a smoke screen for the people of this country to be blindsided into thinking that this is the best plan of action for us. The recent flotilla of MOU’s coming ashore clearly has nothing but BAD INTENTIONS and a pathway to RAPE the good that’s left in this country, and which will go to FATTEN the bank accounts of the GREED POWERED MINDSETS of those STRANGERS or in some instances PIRATES that wash up on our shore.

Suggestion:

I feel that it's time that we start taxing the high rise condos/hotels along Seven Mile Beach road, after all they are saving millions what's a few thousand a year to enjoy the view they took away from us. If you agree write to your leaders and let them know how what you would like to be done about the Condo's and Hotels on Seven Mile Beach. We could also start increasing the Tourist Tax on these properties as well. We can't give away our precious Seven Mile Beach views and location so easily any more. So why don't the Govt. and the Seven Mile Beach Property Owners sign a MOU that they will pay a flat rate to the Govt. every year for living on Seven Mile Beach. Call it the Seven Mile Beach Impact Fee.

The following letter was sent to us by an anonymous commentor. After reading the posting we decided to give them their own article.

The following was sent to us:

I humbly ask for you indulgence in the reading my letter. Let me start by saying I am not affiliated with either party UDP or PPM nor do I want to be, because there really not much ideological difference between the two groups only the personalities involved, so we find ourselves drawn to a party because of who we like or know personally or to the party that's giving away the most at the time, so in my humble opinion we don't practice party politics, so therefore no need to become associated with either party, I in-turn chose my poison UDP or PPM at election time.

As a very proud Caymanian it saddens, embarrasses and angers me every week to hear the politicians on the talk shows and in the LA come off sound like spoiled little kids. The partisan rhetoric from the parties, the name calling mostly from the UDP members, the finger pointing, blaming of the other party, it comes across like our kids with famous Caymanian saying "na me" all of this is more than enough to turn your stomach, it's all so silly, childish and and I dare say moronic! its unwanted and so unneeded. This sort of behavior is a waste of our tax dollars that is used to pay these people to represent the interest of our country and our people. It really appears as though our politicians don't comprehend, don't have a strong enough grasp or understanding to the issues and what the solutions are, I find this alarming, this appearance only seeks to add more embarrassment to our country. The arrogants of some of these people will lead you to think that we work for them and not the other way around!

I would like to provide a reality check to these people (Politicians) with the hopes of bringing them back to earth, most people of our country have no trust in either party PPM or UDP, there is little to no trust and respect for the majority politicians and this because of the negative and disrespectful way they interact with each other in public and the way they make the issues sound trivial and not forgetting at this most serious time the are seen as less then holding our country up first but rather there personal interest... how sad for us!

The issues of our country are serious and should not be a political football, I personally find it insulting and am sure a great many others in our society feel this way. To inflict further insult to the voting public or the country they come off patronizing when trying to justify there poor judgement and behavior by saying, "have you seen or heard how they act in the UK house of commons" or we friends but things get hot when dealing with the issues....pathetic. I would like to remind each of them we are not in the UK and I personally expect better of the people we elect. Any self-respecting member of our society should be appalled by the childish conduct of our elected public servants when they get on your show and in the the LA building don't address the issues but rather they deal in character assignation in order to ride out the storm or divert the attention of the matter at hand, all of this is extremely frustrating and disappointing.

As a voting tax payer I am demanding a higher level of conduct and respect from each of them! kids listen to these politicians, members of the public have been and are asking respectfully for a high or higher level of decorum by the people whom we entrusted to lead and yet they continue set a very poor example as so called leaders in our community.

I would like to encourage these representatives to make the changes needed and one day hope to be truly respected for the positions they hold in our society, I will also ask them to consider the damage they are causing to our society by heavily assisting in the division of the people based on the so called party system mess that we are mixed up in. STOP with the excuses, STOP the misdirecting of the issues and questions that have been asked of each of you.

I would like to ask these politicians the following, but I not hold my breath in waiting for the answers.

Where is yourself RESPECT as a Caymanian first and foremost?
What other assets of the country has been divested ?
What plans are in place to assist in stabilizing our economy?
What plans are in place to address the economic depression other that the out right selling of whats left of our birth right?
Where is the honestly and real substance from each of you in regards to the issues the country is facing?
Is there a solid plan in place to address the crime issue that's destroying our country?
What is the plan to make owning and running business Cayman easier?
What is the plan to address the cost of electricity?
What is the plan to address the cost fuel at the pump?
What is the plan to address the over all cost of living in the country?
What changes are going to be made to address the corruption allegations?

I would like to hear the answers to the questions/problems our country is facing? Also I would like to see the day to day politics become more about the country and the people than about themselves... just my thoughts for now.

Itinerant Workers Block Unemployed Caymanians From Jobs!

Over the years I have watched itinerant workers come and go from this country. It amazes me that these individuals can join the work force in the Cayman Islands so easily, and hold jobs such as: bartenders; waiters/waitresses; restaurant hostess; concierges; dive boat attendant; etc. These are lower paid hourly jobs, but are also compensated further with gratuities. Therefore, prior to the high season opening industry businesses apply for work permits to fill vacant positions. My concern here is that during the slow time why they don’t train Caymanians to do these positions, therefore by the time the high season rolls around they have people ready to join them and go to work from within our local community.

Additionally, these Itinerant workers are here for up to 8 months, and are usually between the months of Oct/Nov – Apr/May. We have a window of opportunity to train locals for the positions that the business will have available for the high season. This should be a requirement before a business’s work permit application is brought before the board. This way a business has genuinely demonstrated that they are helping to fuel the local economy by employing locals, thereby keeping most of the money in the country. Because they are an itinerant worker they are here for a limited time therefore they will not be spending money unnecessarily in this economy. These itinerant workers always send money back home and spend as little as possible. This is a proven fact, and they will even tell you that’s their intention as well. Many over the years have told me they are only here to make ‘fast and easy money’. So, these workers are of no true economical benefit to our society except for the earnings from the work permit fee, together with only the ‘obvious expenses’ they contribute to the community.

We must focus on the facts that once our local people are employed, they will get their bills paid, they will spend money, they are happier, they are more settled and there is less strain on the Govt. resources every month by providing financial assistance to the majority of the unemployed. We have to do what is necessary to address this issue; it cannot be allowed to continue with such blatant disregard for the unemployed of which the list gets longer every day in this country.

So, as we are in the slow season and the high season is just a few months away, it would be at this time that businesses making plans to import itinerant workers to take a look at those on the unemployed list and the agency responsible for finding employment for Caymanians work together to fill all their positions, and also to provide training in the fields mentioned earlier to our unemployed Caymanians. By doing so this will reduce the number of itinerant workers businesses will require. The business will save on the cost of relocation and work permit fees for these workers, because natives do not cost a business any additional fees, and only what is required under the Labour Law.

If you have any positions open for the upcoming season and you are prepared to train locals, please send me a note in the comments. I have a number of unemployed, professionally trained Caymanians that are willing to work and be a loyal worker. If you are a business that’s only seeking to hire Caymanians for the numbers on a work permit application to look good in your favour, and then fire or lay them off afterwards please do not waste my time or my people time by asking for my assistance. Only genuine businesses need send me their information as to what they are looking for. If you want someone with experience in these fields and is also not willing to train a Caymanian, then again do not respond. I know there are many good businesses out there that want to hire and train locals and those are the businesses that will get my applause, and support, and I would like to hear from you.

I will support businesses that are doing everything possible to provide training, and support to our unemployed Caymanians.

Govt. Rejects Educational Advancement of Young Caymanian Scholar!

A young Caymanian Scholar is attending the UWI in Jamaica on a full government scholarship. The young scholar makes a requests to allow for them to take an additional ‘specialist course’. The cost of which was minuscule, which cannot be compared to what the Govt. has wasted money on without anything to show for it. (http://www.compasscayman.com/caycompass/2011/07/12/Auditor--Gov%E2%80%99t-mismanaging-purchases/) This very specialist training is something that is needed more than ever today in every hospital considering that heart ailments/diseases are on the rise.

The request was sent through to the Education Ministry which was headed up at the time by Mr. Anthony Eden (former Minister of Health). The young scholar’s request was debated on by many subjects within the Ministry. One of the individuals was heard stating that ‘we don’t need this specialist training here in Cayman; it’s of no use to us’. So let me give you the twist to this last sentence. The Govt. of today has recently amended its laws to facilitate the SHETTY HOSPITAL which will in-fact house medically trained personnel with this exact ‘specialist training’ known as Cardio Thoracic Surgery. Talk about your Double Standard minded people. The amazing factor is the same person whom spoke this comment, share similar cultural background from a foreign land, (and is a non Caymanian), so this really begs to ask why my Caymanian scholar was not good enough to be educated in this field of medicine?

The young Scholar now a practicing Doctor in the country would have been the FIRST one on island with this specialised training which would have had tremendous benefits for this community. We said NO to our own, we allowed a non-Caymanian to tell a Caymanian that ‘you are not good enough to be certified in this field’!! Doesn’t that just make you mad as hell? Can we see how our people are being held back and held down by SOME people that could have given them a ‘hand up’?

To further add insult to injury, this young Caymanian Scholar returns home to fill the starting post as a Casualty Officer and was blocked again by another non Caymanian at the George Town Hospital whom wouldn’t offer them any support whatsoever with respect to taking up the post.

What has our society come to?? We are no longer the community that raised the child! We are a community of power hungry, pushy, prejudicial, discriminatory, and biased persons against our Caymanians. Therefore, in this instance it was a conglomerate of Caymanians and Non Caymanians whom mutually agreed to ‘snuff out’ the advancement opportunity for one of our own due to ignorance and discriminatory factors all melded into one.

Solution, we need to encourage, promote and validate every one of our Caymanian Scholars, to educate them and in so doing DO NOT DISCOUNT their educational advancements when they make a genuine, request to pursue it.

Speaking of the Chinese, don’t they offer free education to all their citizens? Isn’t it the same for citizens of India?

Isn't this a ‘Double-Sided-Standard’?

CAYMANIAN WOMEN Must HAVE A VOICE & RIGHTS!!!

I was raised in the Church as a young child. However, as the years went on I realized that there were too many questions about religion than there were answers or there were people in my community readily available to assist with any concerns I may have had. I was told not to speak or question anything that maybe bothering me or causing my young mind's confusion. Which has brought me to the conclusion to being a 'spiritual' person because religion is 'bondage'. So whilst I believe in God, I don't believe in the bondage placed on an individual by some Churches.

In protest for Caymanian Women, and Children that are suffering in this country because they are afraid to speak up or stand up for what they believe is right. I am stating publicly that I support you, and I don't want you to be afraid of anyone in this country that is wilfully, or abusing their powers granted to them by the people of this country in whatever capacity to take away your speech, your concern, your opinions and certainly your HUMAN RIGHTS!!!

If anyone out there has been ill-treated in any capacity whether on the job, in public courts, via the police or by any other organization or Govt. agency, please know that I have personally been a VICTIM OF THIS VICTORIAN SYSTEM of Discrimination, Prejudices, and Racism in this Country. I have also watched it play out against our Caymanian people by persons of authority as well. Therefore, please come forward and speak out against any injustice you have experienced. If you do not speak up, your complaints cannot be heard and those whom are abusing your rights will continue to do so privately, openly and/or publicly because your silence gives them the power to do so.

The Cayman Islands and it's Caymanian people have been too disenfranchised in their country for far too long.

So ALL my Strong Caymanian Women, step forward and make the change that's going to benefit your country, and the future for your children.

INTIMIDATION AGAINST CAYMANIANS & OTHER RESIDENTS!!

This is something that won’t ever play any role in my life. I have learnt over the years to understand why it was that I was left holding the bag, and for whom I was chosen to be the scapegoat for! But the more the years move on and the more I watch the demise of our Country by INTIMIDATION for the ‘double standards’ that exist even more prominently today, and which is tremendously affecting our Caymanian people and the way of life we all know and love.

I remember when INTIMIDATION played a role in the way our people were harvested to work in this country, or to fall victims to this ‘Victorian System’ still in existence today and with its prejudicial and discriminatory tones in these modern times, makes it chronically abusive to our people. Many were given decent roles, and with a modest salary, they worked hard, did as they were told and of course they moved up the ladder. Sadly, some of our very own held their Caymanian’s from receiving promotions etc. They simply did as they were told. But as time moved on Caymanians found that very few were being chosen and the numbers dropped off as time went on. Today, there are less Caymanians in a position of leadership within some of the private/public sectors.

INTIMIDATION goes further than that of the native Caymanian. It also breeds bountifully within the community of imported workers. They are imported told prior to arrival their salary will be X dollars CI per month, then upon arrival and seeing their first pay cheque it has been reduced considerably. Whom can they turn to? Certainly not the agencies that are supposed to assist with this. Some are too afraid to make a fuss because this is the first time in years they have a job, or they have a family to care for and is depending heavily on their income for survival back home. However, they too are subjected to a variety of INTIMIDATION’s by their employers and other factors as well.

It is not good to see INTIMIDATION so blatantly alive and well in this country, where we seek on a weekly/daily basis to encourage inward investment. The good investors won’t find us attractive, because they too do not wish to be subjected to INTIMIDATION nor do they want to sacrifice their trained and loyal workers to same.

Therefore, we must not succumb to or be subjected to any form of INTIMIDATION in this country, such as the one what was experienced yesterday morning given out verbally by two public servants. They must realize that these types of comments and suggestive words of INTIMIDATION won’t help them much. They are causing harm to be injected into this country and openly subjecting the people of this country to lawsuits that will have no grounds to argue because a person’s Human Rights were discriminated against as it was in this open public forum. The wording of which was a debate style between both parties discussing openly the charges of the case, the sentence and jail sentencing, clearly determining the outcome of this particular case prior to trial and hearing a defence.

Finally, I am waiting for my written request to be replied to. It is unprofessional for a public servant regardless of their position in this community to not respond within a reasonable timeframe and address the matter of concern sent to them.

INTIMIDATION no longer has any power whatsoever in my life and in the life of many people in this community. If you are a victim of INTIMIDATION Caymanian or not, you have the right to stand up against this, because when you do not stand up and refute something, it means you are in agreement with it.

CAYMANIANS KNOW YOUR RIGHTS UNDER THE CONSTITUTION!!!

The People Marched With Passion Today!!!!

The native people of the Cayman Islands took part in a March today to the Legislative Assembly and to the Govt. Administration Building where the offices of the Premier and his Govt. resides. They made their points very clear. Some chanted "Do us a favour and resign Premier Bush", some held signs that read 'We deserve more trees less Bush'. This last sign was held by one of our senior citizens (see picture to the side), signalling that the young and old are in unity of an improvement to our ruling Government.

Many may feel that we are airing our dirty laundry, but it is felt that if we don't do something about ALL THE DIRTY LAUNDRY we have stacked up in this country we will be buried in it sooner rather than later. Time to put those washing machines to better use.

The time has come, and speaking with many of the citizens in this country today they are feeling relieved that they participated in this historical event. Those whom couldn't make it today, went out last Saturday to the East End sea wall to protest the development of the East End Seaport and the destruction of our water lens and marine environment.

There are too many Pirates in this country that have been awarded citizenship and their only objective is to come, seek and destroy. Sorry to inform you all out their in the stream with your intentions of coming ashore with the same mindset, NOT TODAY BOBO!! Find yourselves another island to go and rape and pillage to the ground. This country belongs to the Caymanian people, and that is the NATIVE Caymanians.

When you see us stand up and speak up for our rights you can bet your bottom dollar that we ain't turning back now. We will continue to protest until our country is safely in our hands and not in the hands of a 'brood of vipers'.

Long live my Caymanian People, don't give up and please remind them that will come and take and take and take and give back very little that they are all on a TIMER!! If your intentions are cruel, and malicious to the economic stability and continued growth your citizenship will be recalled. Nothing in this world is impossible not even the revocation of some holders of citizenship that was received via the 'mass status grants'.

'Today, the fowl cut teeth Bobo' and they too will have their voices heard.

Caymanian Doctor's Medical Certificate No good in C.I. Court

Update: The Medical Certificate was accepted on June 28th, 2011 and the warrant was vacated.

Today a Cayman Islands Medical Certificate from a Licensed Medical Practitioner in the Cayman Islands certifying that the personal health of Kerry Horek was not acceptable in Court today by the ruling Magistrate Nova Hall.

Kerry Horek was medically certified unfit to attend to Court and address a matter that's been in the works for over a year. During the past year Ms. Horek has been waiting patiently to start the trial. The Complainant has been ill and had surgery in the US, and Kerry Horek had to wait until he had fully recovered to travel back to the Cayman Islands to ascertain a new trial date.

There were three trial dates set and each time it was a different story about the complaint, and each time the Courts accepted their story without any documentation stating that the Complainant did in-fact have surgery. To date there is no evidence of this only hearsay by the Prosecution. Makes you ask the question why couldn't the complainant schedule his surgery around his own trial?

What is another issue is the EX RCIP Officer Richard Clarke was overheard telling people at the Courts that if Kerry Horek didn't show for Court she was going to have to pay for his travel expenses as he now lives in Florida, along with the Complainant's. Here we go again the unprofessional manner in which persons whom were once entrusted to uphold the laws of the Cayman Islands. Really?!!! It is any wonder he is no longer a member of the RCIP. Or maybe he was one of those officers whom came for Rum/Sun/Fun!!!

Let's see how the Double Standards work in the Cayman Islands Judiciary. Kerry Horek submits a Medical Certificate and is told that it is not being accepted by the Courts. The certificate was only for two days for her to recover, in the meanwhile she has been waiting for over a year on the complainant to recover. So this is the way the Courts treat people in this country??

These Double Standards and Victorian way of handling people in the Cayman Islands must stop. Human Rights must prevail along with the Constitution for the people to have some kind of rights in their own country.

We are always seeking to attract more and more people to our country and we have NO HUMAN RIGHTS and what few we do have, the powers that be use their powers and influence to kick them out the door and take away your right to a FAIR AND UNPREJUDICED TRIAL!!!

A complaint has since been filed with the Chief Justice, The Governor along with the Human Rights and Constitution Commissions.

Everyone UNITED and JOINED HANDS yesterday morning. It was a cross section of people in the community from every district whom stood in a peaceful prayer and protest against the East End Seaport that's seeking the Govt's approval. There were Caymanians, expats both young and old.

Below is a picture of the gas station prices in The Netherlands and near to Rotterdam home to an oil refinery. This photo was taken May 2011. They pay $11.06 per UK gallon and $9.22 per US gallon (thanks to my FB friend for calculating this for me, much appreciated):

The Compass headlines today read ‘Oil refinery plan revealed’, and as I read on it stated further that: ‘Premier McKeeva Bush announced Friday that he had signed a "ministerial memorandum of understanding" to establish an oil refinery in the Cayman Islands. (Compass June 17, 2011)

To say that an Oil Refinery will bring us cheaper gas, well that’s false, it won’t happen, it’s the oil company’s we are dealing with, so what makes you think they want to see their bottom lines quiver, they are in the business to make money and lots of it.

So therefore when the Premier makes claims that fuel will be cheaper for CUC, therefore cheaper for us the consumers, if we have an Oil Refinery, I have to ask the following:

1. This town has an Oil Refinery, so why is it that they pay these ridiculous prices for fuel?

2. Additionally, I saw the dirt that is pumped into the air by these refineries from their smoke stacks; the window sills are black with fine black dust on a hourly basis, your cars are caked with the same residue, your patio furniture, your windows, don’t think about hanging your laundry on the line that’s a NO NO. Also every so often they give off a LOUD explosion that wakes you up out of your sleep because you thought the place was under attack.

3. NO, NO, NO, we won’t accept this, we don’t want to kill our children prematurely, or let them live on medications unnecessarily for the rest of their lives because you inflicted an Oil Refinery on them.

4. This country taxes its people every year to pay for ‘clean air’. So they permit the Oil Refineries to come in and pollute, charge the people more for fuel, and charge them more again in taxes to clean the air the Oil Refinery pollutes. In addition to all the health issues especially with upper respiratory infections that last forever, and the lung infections, the asthmatic infections and so on and so forth, don't think that cancer is eliminated from any of these, it is very prevalent, with many victims.

5. Mr. Premier, why do you keep thinking that we are ignorant to these facts? We have educated ourselves and we know that these ‘fly by night’ ideas are a 'bad idea' for our country?

6. If you are no longer seeking to entertain Tourism as one of our major products and industries, then say so, and let us know what your Govt. intentions are to change the face of what we offer. Because Tourist won’t come if they feel that they can’t come to paradise and enjoy the clean air, cool crisp breeze with little or no pollutants in it.

7. The winds will NEVER carry this away, because residual properties from what the refinery disburses in the air will not all be blown away, they will settle as many of the particles are heavy and don’t get far in the wind. Therefore, not only causing grave health concerns for our citizens/visitors etc, it will also pollute our surrounding water and ecosystem.

Police Record for a Pepsi & a Red Bull!!?

I interviewed this young man, and my heart is so broken to see how painful this has made him to know that he has no rights in his country and even when he tells the truth he is beaten down like many Caymanians by the legal system and given criminal records when in-fact there was no need for it to be this way. A resolution could have been made. I will boycott every business whom feels that they have to give criminal records to our young Caymanian men and women, whom have told the truth but because we are slaves to this system we are the outcast, and if you are young, black and Caymanian, your rights are even more restricted as the days go by. So I will tell you his story because he gave me permission to do so. I will not name the guard/police/ judge, or owners of the gas station because we are all very smart people and we can easily figure it all out.

These are the stories I want to highlight, to show you the double standards that are being formed in this country against our Caymanian people. The innocent are made into criminals when they have spent their entire 34 years being good, keeping the laws, working hard, and avoiding the bullshit!!

I have no idea what our legal system is coming to but tell me if this isn’t ‘prejudicial corruption’ at its finest against one of our young Caymanians.

A 34 year old black Native Caymanian male, fully employed for years, a good person, works hard, never had as much as a speeding ticket in his life so far; but his life sure changed quickly when he arrived at a certain gas station late one night after partying in celebration of his birthday, and which many of us do anyway. He admits he was a bit under the influence, but he was getting something to drink at the gas station to sober him up . A few guys hitched a ride with him to the gas station and he handed one of them $6 to go inside and get him a Pepsi and a red bull. When the hitchhiker friend took longer than normal to come out, he then went inside and collected the red bull and the Pepsi and motioned to the friend that he had gotten the two drinks. As he was heading to leave the building, the security guard stopped him before he exits the gas station. In his slightly drunken state he explains to the security guard that the guy over there at the counter was paying for it because he had given him the money.

Now here this, the TWIST: Police are stationed outside the gas station in their cars getting their late night snacks and the guard calls for them. The guy thinks all is good the guard tells the police that this guy was stealing these two drinks (one can of Pepsi and one can of red bull an appx. total value of CI$3.50). The police when they arrived began to lash into the young man with verbal threats of taking him downtown and locking him up if he didn't confess to stealing these items. Now this young man has had some drinks and wants to sober up so he gets agitated, and tell me who wouldn't if you know that these scumbags are about to take away your rights when you have been honest with them. In the young man's agitated state with the police as they threaten and bully him, he then curses at them, and all in his own defense because he knew he had done nothing wrong.

Well they (the Police) arrest the 34 year old Caymanian black man, his first arrest ever. They charge him with theft, take him to court. The Judge finds him GUILTY makes him pay CI$350 by a certain date or face imprisonment!!!! He has paid the money. Now he has to go back to court again for his fate to be decided further about his drivers license. He needs his license for work so let's see how this is going to fall! The poor man had no choice because his dumbass lawyer (not by Legal Aid either, he paid him to represent him); instructs him to plead guilty and the Judge would be more lenient!! Can anyone tell me if that is what the Judge considered to be lenient what the hell was she going to give him as an ALTERNATIVE if he was found guilty after pleading innocent????

Additionally, I found the verbal lashing that the police gave this young man to be unnecessary; they could have handled this situation much better. They could have called over his friends and confirmed he was paying for the stuff. But the friend is nowhere to be found because he left when the police arrived according to the two other hitch-hikers. This hitch-hiker vanishes with the guy's change and can't be found. The others that were with him said he had left when the Police came.

The Judge said that he was lying and that he intended on stealing these two drinks. It is obvious to me that this Judge took this case personally, because it was the gas station that she is very good friends with the owners, and have been seen at their residence often playing dominoes and drinking heavily. I have even witnessed these two play dominoes at a popular watering hole along South Church St. on many occasions in the past.

So the Judge used her influence to send a message to anyone who dares to even take a CI$3.50 item from her friend’s gas station. Therefore, because of this I have boycotted that gas station, and it should have never been approved to be near a Hospital to begin with. Additionally, in court the security guard lied and said that he stopped him outside the gas station, logic, why would the young man enter the gas station with intentions of stealing when the gas station was filled with cops getting a snack and probably for free because I have been there late some nights and I don’t recall seeing them pay for anything. (I do take notice of the police when they are in my midst; I don’t trust them.

This Judge took a young Caymanian’s man life/livelihood away from him for CI$3.50 because he told the truth, and she didn’t believe him. She believed the lying security guard and the police.

Pies & Rebates!!

The Hon. Premier Mckeeva Bush stated in his budget address to the people of the Cayman Islands, that his Govt. was a caring one and as a result of being so ‘caring’ they were offering a $4.5million ‘rebate’ to Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC) to extend to their residential customers only.

How can you give CUC a ‘rebate’ on the import duty on fuel, when we pay for the duty on fuel in our monthly bills, and not CUC! Whilst that is a very good move on his Govt’s part to do this for the people of the Cayman Islands, I cannot begin to tell you how ridiculous that sounded to type much less sit, listen and watch.

Fog eg: So when you break down that $4.5million into appx. 20,000 residential properties the ‘rebate’ to your account should be $225.00. I am not sure of the exact number of residential households there are as account holders with CUC, I am going on what I read some time ago.

A further example of how ridiculous the rates are here: I was out of my apartment for a few days shy of a month, and left only the refrigerator breaker on. The walls are all solid concrete, good insulation always cool inside. My utility bill was CI$142.00 ($42 was the actual electric usage and $100 was the fuel cost).

Therefore, it is our own Govt. that’s raping us on the duty on the importation of fuel, in addition to already skyrocketing fuel rates this summer we could use that rebate this month, and not in six months down the road because it was held up in ‘red-tape’.

So, a guilty conscience I can understand that better Mr. Premier, but a ‘rebate’?!! Whilst it is a welcome crumb tossed at us from the BIG delicious CI PIE, we are not all complete idiots either, and this won’t send us away ‘quietly’. LOL!! You had better have more pies in that oven with ALL our names on it!

Unite and see what we can do?? Well done my People!!!

Why I bother?

There are days when I wonder why I bother to address the concerns of others in my community. It can be quite over whelming at times when you see what others are going through and how they can't fend for themselves for whatever reason it may be.

I bother, mainly because I care and I don't want to see good people hurting, and stressing from lack of assistance and whom genuinely need it and could use it.

When I watch the preferential treatment being given out to those who don't need the help such as the partner in a law firm whose daughter receives government financial aid for a college education I have to wonder why were they chosen over the A student from a poor family.

I bother more when I hear of the abuse of the Dept. and Children and Family Services financial resources to individuals whom are both employed, and both drive exotic $40K cars, I have to wonder why were they chosen over the sick elderly couple with the damaged house and living in a flood prone area and every rainy season they have to be evacuated from their home until the water resides.

I bother, because I care, and I hate to see injustices dealt towards anyone as most recently heard about the Civil Servant whom was physically damaged on the job and has been cast aside by the Govt and is now begging for food everyday. But yet, our Govt. spends ridiculous money on events at the Ritz Carlton for show, when we have District Townhalls just as spacious that could house these events and save the country money, is there some secret contract with this hotel that we are not aware of? I know that the Govt. pays astronomical fees for these events when hosted there.

I bother, simply because I care and I hate greed, injustice against our people. But at the same time our people have to remember that they must stand up for what they believe in and this chatting in the backyard days are over. Too much has been hidden for too long and although the Govt. would try to snuff out as much as they can to prevent us from knowing what is going on, we cannot remain in the backyard much longer. It's time to take the picnic to the front yard and show who we are as a body of united people, stand up for what we believe in and what we know is right, and not what our Govt. tells us is right, because we all know that is all wrong.

I bother, when I hear our leaders dictating to us, and telling us it's their way or the nothing else. It makes me feel as if I am helpless, if they want to destroy what we have left of the environment for the almighty dollar, then I know that these people no longer has a soul and would sell their mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and children to secure their financial status and with their hearts as hard as they are now, their entire nation of people who gave them the power to be where they are today.

I bother, simply because I am fed up of the lies, deceitfulness and the shame and embarrassment they bring to the public with their rants on the tv, radio and newspapers. It is an utmost disgrace to watch, listen or read these days.

My Father always told me at the breakfast table, when he handed me the morning papers to read, that it is important to know what is happening in your country at all times, but in some instances I wonder should I care? Should I even bother?

The context of this headline derived from the Human Rights Symposium that had been held the day before. The speakers at this event elaborated strongly on the assertions of laws protecting women and children needed to be updated. This symposium was attended by many members in the audience from around the Caribbean. Local Attorneys Nervik and Collins participated in the debate that derived from the speech presentations of Dame Elizabeth Butler-Sloss which dealt with the right to family life and the rights of children under English law. Other speeches were presented by Madam Justice Desiree Bernard and she addressed the subject of using human rights treaties to promote the rights of women and children. Lionel Swift QC made his presentation on using the civil justice system to protect the rights of women and children in the Commonwealth, and our local attorney Sarah Collins addressed the NGO's role in protecting the rights of women and children.

Therefore, it is my opinion that at the time that this symposium took place almost 10 years ago, the Premier the Honorable Mckeeva Bush was in power as the Minister of Tourism, Environment and Transport.

The government elected body has failed miserably in doing anything further to protect the rights of women and children in this country. This begs to ask the question, why has the Children's Law not been passed into legislation?

I am deeply saddened to see that our government has chosen to continuously ignore this very important aspect of our society in protecting the rights of women and children. It would appear that the government has overlooked these important issues for almost 10 years, and even after being re-elected over and over, they continue to ignore, put on the back burner and allow our women and children to suffer abuse, ridicule, infringement on their human rights in every possible aspect of degrading their existence in this community. It is unfortunate that we choose to put above all of these, the ammendment to medical laws to protect the interest of individuals or offer them silver platters laden with million dollar discounts on import duty, whom just came upon the scene recently, versus the women and children in our community that day in and day out, continue to be placed in precarious situations, socially, economically, financially and environmentally. This is the most dispicable act of ignoring the very important aspects that's affecting our women and children today in this society as they continue to experience further abuse.

Our government is overlooking these issues such as physical/mental/emotional/economical abuse against our women and children. It really tears at my heart to see that we have a government with such miscontrued priorities that would choose to safe guard the financial interest of a handful of non-Caymanian entities over their own people!!

If I had to grade our government on this aspect of their governance to date I would personally give them a failing grade. To overlook the protective laws for the rights of women and children is nothing short of being deliberate, inconsiderate and complete and blatant disregard for the women and children in this our beloved country.

Therefore, the next time one of our representatives take to the microphone on the tv/radio to complain about why we don't want useless islands in the northsound, oil refineries among other unnecessary developments that will bring a longterm environmental impact; I hope they will consider our women and children for a brief moment and do something about the delays in putting these laws in place.

We could learn from the Japanese....

I watched Diane Sawyer of ABC News host a recent news story about the Japanese and how a country of 128 million people could all come together after such a horrific and catastrophic event to humble themselves and not one incident of looting has been reported.

What amazes me is during the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004, our country of approximately 50,000 people experienced evidence of looting in some of the most ridiculous extremities. It was so ridiculous people posted signs that stated 'you loot we shoot' around their homes, and I personally know this for a fact because at my apartment complex at the time we had a huge sign up. Needless to say, some gasoline, and fishing equipment was stolen, well what was left behind and salvaged from the wreckage of the aftermath.

I note further the long lines in Japan of people waiting for rationed food items, without any complaints from them. Mothers and Fathers standing for hours holding their babies in their arms . I recall vividly the long lines, in the hot sun and having to wait to get into the grocery stores for food and water which was also rationed, but had to endure the frustrations of people jumping the line refusing to wait, and constantly complaining, even though the lines were certainly not at any great lengths in comparison to the lines the people have to stand and wait in in Japan.

We could certainly learn a lot from the way the Japanese conducted themselves, and because of this I am humbled and certainly would hope that human nature overcome us versus animal survival instinct that would push us humans over the edge to act out of context when having to wait for something as important as food and water in the next line and have respect for everyone else that came before you don't jump the line because you are sick of waiting like the rest of us.

Not only as a people we can learn, but as a nation we can unite and our agencies can be prepared and include human resilience as well.

Government’s educational system has created segregation in our schools...

When I attended primary and secondary schools in these islands, there were a very multicultural mix of kids from varying countries such as Jamaica, Honduras, Guyana, Barbados, Canada, England, Asia, India, Australia, Costa Rica, Columbia, Venezuela and the list goes on. These kids were here attending schools because their parents had relocated to this country for work during the boom. Some were teachers, doctors, nurses, bankers, police officers, housekeepers, gardeners, clerks, etc. We all associated with their children, played with them, spent weekends at each other’s home, went to the movies, and our parents all became friends.

My point of this note is as the title reads, and I am concerned that our educational system has now segregated it to the point that only Caymanian children can attend public schools. This makes absolutely no sense to me, because we are creating segregation within our own country and loading this burden on the shoulders of our children. There are many expatriate families that would want to send their children to the public schools, and have stated they would pay to do so if the fee was less than the private schools. I have no issues with private schools, because they are here to fill the void that has been created by our government run educational system. The private schools aren’t segregating nationalities; if you can afford to send your Caymanian children to private schools then they will accept you.

My point is, if our government run educational system was to do some revamping and offer to start with a number of openings per annum to expatriate children, at a fee, then these funds could be used to improve the school system with better facilities, better pay for teachers, provide more youth related programs to deal with their issues that’s affecting them either from social peer pressure or home life, etc. This would alleviate our youth being sent to Northward to become harden criminals and therefore when reintroduced back into society they repeat their behaviour and end up spending their entire young years behind bars. The system that relates to our youth is clearly broken, however, we the people out here in the society are the ones without the blinders on and can see that our Government keeps doing the same thing over and over and expecting to get a different result. Sorry to break the news to our Government officials, but that's not going to happen. If you can't help our youth, then don't segregate them.

Our Government has created a 20,000lb Elephant in the room when it comes to our educational system and they are simply too blind to see this. Give up the segregation, as the government has allowed more and more expatriates to come into the country, then give all of our children the opportunity to grow together and understand who we are and where we come from and there will be less social unrest with the youth and they won’t be any labels on our children heads about where they are educated as it is now.

It worked for us in the past; it can work for us again.

I am really surprised if not dumbfounded to see that we have Caymanians in this country that would make such remarks. It is incredible to say the least that a fellow Caymanian would even state that fellow Caymanians must do this.

From what I can gather that's really what Caymanians have been doing for years and all their life. This passive mentality trend has been passed down for generations except within the last decade or so we have seen how many will no longer sit around and take the bull that's been handed out to them for decades but instead takes a stand for want of an equal opportunity.

If a Caymanian is professionally qualified to fill a position in this country that is being held by a expatriate worker on the proverbial work permit license then they should be weaned out of the job and the position handed over to the Caymanian. That's being proactive towards seeing that your people whom have taken the time and resources to gain professional qualifications be given the opportunity of employment to put their professional qualifications to work in their own country as well. I don't see any expatriate worker 'kissing ass' to get the first preference for the available job in this country!! Additionally, I don't see Immigration being proactive enough to ensure that there are no qualified Caymanians that is suitable for those positions before granting the work permit either! Let's answer some questions then:

1. How is it that persons laid off from one company can go to another and get the work permit approved no questions asked? When there are Caymanians that have applied, but their applications were never even considered and they are qualified. This happens in many Law Firms on a monthly basis. Does Immigration investigate these applications?

2. Why is it that when a Caymanian moves around from one position to the other they are treated as 'job hoppers' but the work permit holder can do the same from company to company and awarded with an approved no questions asked work permit grant every time? Aren't they 'jop hopping' too? Or is that only a classification used against a Caymanian to approve the work permit? I need to know this??

3. Why is it that the a person can go on a year's roll over and return to have their job reinstated to them via a recruitment agency for six months then the Company applies for the work permit after the six month expiry for another work permit and it's granted? Therefore, all the while qualified Caymanians in the same organization are overlooked for the promotion to that position. The Company holds the job for the ex-pat, and uses the easy access in the front door loophole method of a recruitment agency to get that individual back into the country and keep the Caymanian from being promoted!

Clearly, Caymanians are being unfairly treated in this country in all aspects of employment. Some companies I have been shown the letters from stating they are not giving any salary raises or bonuses, but yet their expatriate workers got a cost of living increase, and the Caymanians were passed over. There is no equality within these organizations, too many are treating Caymanians like 'modern day slaves', and our Govt. agencies that should be investigating and protecting the rights of Caymanians are tight lipped, and wearing blinders. To sum it up, it's a deliberate killing of our Caymanian people's rights, morals, ethics, and well being in their own country!

The problem is we have Caymanians in power positions that indulge in holding their fellow Caymanian down, and we have a Govt. that also practices such actions as well. Therefore, when the ex-pat worker arrives on these shores they see that we are a country divided and they also note that we have people in power that are not united, so they themselves band together with their own nationalities. This is the case in many instances.

There are a few decent ex-pats in this community that genuinely do care about the Caymanians and the way they are treated and don't practice the prejudice and biased acts of their fellow ex-pats. I say to them THANK YOU!!

I have been told over the years, by various personalities, from a vast number of countries and in professional/unprofessional/skilled positions on work permits right here in Grand Cayman, that they were told about the job opening by a friend or former colleague, and in some instances they were referred by this person for the job as well, also in the same breath they are told to stay away from the locals and keep to themselves or within the ex-pat community. There's even areas of the island they are told to stay away from such as West Bay etc. that's usually the top name on their lips when I attempt to show them property in this district. But do they know that the district of West Bay starts at the Ritz Carlton?? However, over the years the number of persons I have had to adjust that statement with are far too many to put a number to.

The fact that we are a country divided, brought on by our Govt. and the elected officials the foreign community uses this as their way to get the upper hand in our country. Therefore the mentality is to address Caymanians as second and third class citizens in their own country. The expatriate community is well aware that Caymanians in power will NEVER take a stand for the rest of their people, because they are self righteous, arrogant, and they have a very short memory on how they got to this level in their professional career and who helped them!!

So when I see a Caymanian in a position that's crucial, such as lecturing others that they must 'kiss ass to network' then I have to ask could that be 'contact cement' in their pockets they are using for lip balm?

The Bluff is falling down....

On my recent trip back home to Cayman Brac last month, I took the time to look at the rock formations of the bluff on the south side of the island. To my surprise not only did I notice what I suspected but what I believe to be that our beautiful Bluff is falling down. In saying this, take a look at the series of pictures below and video. You can see where the rocks once were and easily noticed by the colour changes of the rocks along the bluff. If you also look carefully, you can see the lines outlining some of the rock formations that are still intact along the bluff, but are clearly the rocks are also lined out and maybe with the next high impact winds from a future hurricane or earthquake could possibly shake these loose and they will fall as many have since the passage of Hurricane Paloma. What is very concerning to me is that some home owners along the south side build close under the bluff and there should be some kind of buffer zone that prevents this. I am not trying to impose on anyone's private property, I'm simply saying we have to protect home owners in a proactive approach to the close proximity to the edge that could pose a danger if these rocks that are clearly losing their hold decide to fall one day without the aid of high impact winds from Hurricanes or vibrations an Earthquake.

The following video below depicts the large area of rock formation that has separated from the bluff and fallen off. This is possibly from the high impact winds of the last Hurricane Paloma in 2008 but clearly shows how weak some areas are and could possible be a dangerous situations for owners building near to the bluff.

The country’s only independent representative in the Legislative Assembly is making another bid to try and introduce a minimum wage by asking for a change to a proposed amendment to the Labour Law. Government is intending to bring an amendment to the existing bill to remove the current limits on severance, retirement and compensation. Although Ezzard Miller says he supports the changes, he is requesting that government take the opportunity to add a minimum wage to the bill as well. Miller has made a number of previous attempts to introduce a minimum wage but has so far failed in his efforts to get it onto the statute books.

I should have posted this sooner, so here goes:

I am very sad that our Honorable Premier Mr. Bush lost his only daughter Tonya. I only met her once, but as brief as it was, I found her to be a lovely young woman.

Regardless, of what, I feel very sad for you and your family.

In addition to my earlier email to you, I am using my blog to say I am sincerely, sorry for your loss, and I cannot begin to imagine how you and her mother is feeling.

I can only hope and pray that your hearts will be comforted and God will send his Angels to encamp around you and comfort you in this very sad and difficult time.

UPDATE: Job Hunting/Employment Issues

Well so far out of 60+ applications I have received responses from the following businesses to say I was not successful:

1. Walkers

2. Auditor General's Office

3. Immigration Dept.

I suppose I have to be a Filipino in this country to get a full time job. Or maybe it has to do with the fact that I am a 'real' Caymanian, and blacklisted for being so vocal about the employment unfairness in my country against our Caymanian people. Hmmmm, well whatever it is, I am going to survive this recession, and I will do it with dignity. This is my country and I will not be discouraged, or displaced because of my nationality.

There are many prejudicial issues regarding employing Caymanians in this country and it would appear that this is a serious issue and one that our Govt. is afraid to touch for fear of upsetting their SIG's or SIP's.

So what is going to happen when Caymanians are starving in their country? If we put our people to work, then there would be less in line for Govt. assistance at the DFS! There is no need for any rocket scientist to be hired to translate that equation for us. It's realty and a simple fact.

Well, I will continue my job hunting, God has never forsaken me and he is always with me through all the trials of this life, and as long as I believe and have faith, I will be ok.

Hopefully, this prejudicial way employers have towards Caymanians whom are qualified and desire to work and whom will be loyal to their employers versus being enslaved by them as some expats (such as the Filipinos) whom are imported to work in this country are, and is an injustice against them as well, we will have a better working community and more of our hardworking genuine Caymanian people will be put to work.

I am not attacking the Filipino community, I am simply making a statement. They will take the bad treatment from their employers to remain and live in the land of milk and honey, when a Caymanian will refuse to be enslaved the way they are. The Filipino's come from a community that raises them to be servants and that is why many employers are delighted to employ them, because they will work long hours without overtime, and every day of the week without any day offs, and that promotes the employers to breach the Labour Laws of the country and the Filipino immigrant simply keeps quiet and says nothing because of fear of being fired. That to me is slavery. NO expat employed in this country should be treated this way, nor should they accept this treatment either.

Additionally, what is another issue is that a business can tell a qualified/professional Caymanian that they are 'over qualified' for the job, but yet they will hire an expat on a work permit with a degree and they are over qualified for the job and the Immigration Board sees this and they also promote the injustice against a Caymanian by granting the work permit. If a Caymanian chooses to take a lower scale job with less salary because they were either laid off or made redundant (the two words that I hate to hear), that's the Caymanians choice to do that, it should not be the employer's decision to refuse them employment based on their above board qualifications. That is prejudicial and I have to ask, where is the Human Rights Committee when these situations occur?

What are they doing to remedy these actions?? Are they just a 'sleeping dog' only awaken when it affects an expat??

Ok, so you may feel that I am on a rant today with this posting. I can assure you I will rant when it comes to the injustice against my Caymanian people, and that's because I have personally been unjustly dealt with in this Country by my former employers over the years and I know what it's like to be singled out and pointed a finger at. Needless, to say the same person whom pointed the one finger at me, didn't realize that three or more were pointing back in their direction.

I want to see our unemployment reduce down from the 10%, and to be honest I feel it's much higher because there are many I have spoken to that have not registered with the DER so unfortunately that figure could be wrong. But regardless, it's too high based on our per capita. I would like to see our unemployment reduced to 2% or less over the next 24months or sooner. It can happen, but the two Agencies that can make this happen are DER and Immigration and they have got to do it. I hope that Minister Rolston Anglin will stick to the his earlier statements on this point and actually see it through. This is one area we cannot drop the ball on.

For my Caymanians out there, if you apply for a job I recommend sending a copy of your application to the DER and the Immigration Work Permit Board so they can see that you have applied. That's the only way Caymanians can fight back against this employment/prejudicial injustice against them in this country.

On one last note, this is an English speaking country, those whose first language is not English please make a concerted effort to do so when you are on the job, it's disrespectful, annoying and has caused persons to discriminate against you, we have to stop this. IF we must learn another language then it should be mandatory in our schools.

I hope all of you whom are fighting the unemployment blues will soon be employed full time. I also hope that Immigration will crack down on those persons with work permits that don't have a job and force their employers to terminate the work permits because they should not be permitted to continue to reside in this country competing with our unemployed Caymanians for the job when they don't have any legal right to remain here.

Govt Paid out more wasted money down the drain....

This is what it cost the Govt. of the Cayman Islands to do an investigation into allegations against Lonny Tibbetts the former Director of Labour at the DER. We all know the end result was Mr. Tibbetts was cleared and reinstated to his job. Another waste of the public purse by individuals whom are completely clueless as to what they are doing and in an all out effort to disgrace the good name of a Caymanian. I am ashamed of my Government for even entertaining this bullcrap against one of their own. I know I will get backlash for what I post on this blog, but when you dealing with my family and running down my country man, you are walking on the fighting side of me. Total waste of money!!!! But that seems to be the trend that our Govt. encourages, wasting money, and complaining and blaming others for their faults. For those who don't know, Bernard Sirios was a former employee of the CI Govt. and after his 2 year contract was up he returned home, and was called back to investigate these allegations by one of his friends in the Dept. That's how it's done, we look out for everyone else but our own hardworking, dedicated and loyal Caymanians.

Mrs. Ezmie Smith's Journey

After being employed in the Courts from 1982 and developed many areas to improve on the Civil Registry Dept. Mrs. Esmie Smith was given 4days notice to vacate her position. Is this the way we treat our long standing CS's whom have given so much to our country? I am so ashamed of this, as today was her last day. How many long standing loyal, dedicated Caymanian CS's have been treated this way in the last two years?? Makes my heart hurt!!

LONNY TIBBETTS CLEARED!!!

The former Director of Labour, my brother Lonny Tibbetts spent the past 10 months under the Govt. and the Ministry's microscope whilst Mary Rodriquez and her investigator Bernard Sirios trumped up garbage in an attempt to ruin his good name and reputation. At the end of the day they lost!! Lonny went on to a better job within a professionally run organization and with people whom aren't set out to cut his throat everyday or to tamper with his lunch in the fridge.
